However, there are other ways that it can be extremely detrimental and one of those ways is child development. While some studies have seemingly focused narrowly on a few positives, they have also downplayed some of the negatives.

It cannot replace other forms of fine motor skill building

When it comes to a child’s development a tablet such as a iPad Mini cannot replace the benefits of traditional toys. Too many times parents give in to the desire of their kids and give them a tablet or other mobile device. It is difficult to develop fine motor skills using a tablet. Toys like building blocks (Legos) or wooden blocks are the best tools for this.

It can lead to limited social interaction

You cannot underestimate the need for social interaction in a childs early development. While an iPad Mini and other mobile electronic devices do technically make communication easy, but it does not take the place of in person interaction.

Possible exposure to inappropriate content online

Despite the best attempts of shielding kids from content on the Internet that is inappropriate for children, there is no perfect safeguard. For that reason alone parents should always err on the side of caution and limit the possibility of their child being exposed.

Can limit the development of certain coping skills

A big part of social interaction with other people for kids is the development of coping skills. Being able to handle certain situations in a social setting requires them to actually participate. However, that cannot happen if they are allowed to substitute an iPad Mini or other tablet instead.

Too much screen time is bad for a childs eyes

It is well documented that excessive exposure to blue light from electronic devices such as iPad Mini’s and other mobile devices can be harmful to a childs eyes. It can also interfere with proper sleep habits.
